We are excited to invite you to the exhibition titled “Copper. A history of the extraordinary metal” in the Copper Museum in Legnica, Poland, that opened on October 23, 2018 and is one of the milestones of the VirtualMine project.

In addition to multimedia prepared as part of the VirtualMine project, the exhibition will include rich collections of the Copper Museum: minerals, archaeological finds, vessels, weapons and many other objects.

VIRTUALMINE AT THE STRZEGOM GRANITE FESTIVAL 2019

KGHM CUPRUM Ltd Research and Development Centre & Copper Museum in Legnica presented the VirtualMine educational tools at the Strzegom Granite Festival on June 14-16, 2019 in Strzegom, Poland.

In 2019, as part of the VirtualMine Project promotion, the festival program has been joined by: mineral rinsing, workshops on construction of mining machines using Roboblocks, lectures on 'What is my house standing on? Geological location of Strzegom' and ‘Geological location of Lower Silesia', as well as the Multimedia Game ‘Life without raw materials’.

Wider Society Learning Workshop in Athens

The EIT RawMaterials Hub: Regional Center Greece, operated by ther School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of NTUA, organised a Wider Society Learning Workshop in Athens, with participants from Greece, active in Raw Materials WSL Education, and partners from EIT RawMaterials. 1st Roboblocks Pilot Workshop in Greece

The first pilot Roboblocks workshop in Greece was held in March 2019 at the Gaiorama Museum of the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, NTUA, with more than 50 students from 1 secondary school participating in the event. The Roboblocks will remain as a permanent exhibition at the Gaiorama museum, which is visited by many students each year. More...

NTUA developed the educational program “From exploration to exploitation: A minerals adventure” for University students in the form of an entrepreneurship game, aiming at familiarizing undergraduate students with the concepts of Mineral Research and the Exploitation of a given ore deposit.

The first of a series of student's workshops took place on February 22nd, 2019 at the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens - NTUA. The workshops was coorganized with the EIT RawMaterials Hub: Regional Center Greece, with 43 participants.

Following the first workshop at NTUA, two more workshops took place in March 2019 at the Department of Environmental and Pollution Control Engineering of the Western Macedonia University of Applied Sciences in Kozani, Greece and the School of Geology, Faculty of Sciences, of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with 36 and 30 participants respectively.

Opening of the VirtualMine Exhibition

The opening of the VirtualMine Exhibition: Copper - A history of unique metal, will be held on October 23rd 2018 at the Copper Museum in Legnica.

In addition to multimedia prepared as part of the VirtualMine project, the exhibition will include rich collections of the Copper Museum: minerals, archaeological finds, vessels, weapons and many other objects.

The exhibition will be divided into four main sections:

1. Copper occurrence in nature

2. Properties of Copper

3. Mining and metallurgy of cCopper ore over the centuries

4. Use of copper in various areas of life

VirtualMine 3rd Project Meeting

The 3rd Project meeting was held in Laško, Slovenia, on June 7-8, 2018. The project partners had a chance to visit Padež and Sitarjevec Mines, Govce, and enjoyed a Laško City tour and dinner at Castle Tabor. Photos Photos.

The School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) celebrated the International Museum Day on Friday, May 18, 2018. People of all ages enjoyed a beautiful night at the Museum of Mineralogy, Georama and watched, with particular interest, the speech by I. Bassiotis "Chasing meteorites in Antarctica", after visiting the museum and experiencing the rich collection of mineral exhibits.

In the Gallery of Contemporary Art Strojnica at Govce, a spectacular event took place on May 12th, 2018, with performance of Jure Tori, a member of the world-renowned Orleki group, and Jure Longyk, whom most people know from the popular music radio show Izštekani. Alja Ferme and Saša Živanović danced tango in the idyllic landscape, surrounded by mining heritage. The event was supported by the VirtualMine project.

At the Strojnica Gallery at Govce, in the newly decorated gallery of contemporary art Strojnica - Liša jašek, there is an exhibition called Odstiranje, which is the work of the pH 15 group under the mentorship of Prof. Marija Jenko from the Faculty of Natural Science and Engineering whereas the scientific part of the project was contributed by Tomaž Majcen (Laško Museum) and Mateja Golež, MSc (Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute - ZAG). The exhibition is supported by the VirtualMine Project.

CeDInt visits the E.T.S.I MINAS – UPM Mine

On April 22 2018, Francisco Pedro Luque, CeDInt researcher, visited the facilities of the E.T.S.I. MINES - UPM.

The visit, as part of the VirtualMine project, consisted of knowing the mine that the School has, with the aim of incorporating augmented reality to the dissemination of museums. In the mine, various multimedia contents were also developed for the development of the application, with which it is intended to develop a 3D visualization of the mining process and generate a film that teleports the user to a virtual mine and can interact in it.

VirtualMine Kick-off meeting The VirtualMine Kick-off meeting was held on April 24-25, 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland. The meeting started in Humanitarium Gardens of Experience in Wroclaw where the participants were greeted and showed around the educational exhibition.
